Duties and Responsibilities

  • Developing the University media relations strategy.
  • Coordinating all University public relations activities.
  • Managing media inquiries and interview requests.
  • Evaluating opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships and advertising on an on-going basis.
  • Maintaining a keen understanding of trends in the tertiary education sector and making
    appropriate recommendations.
  • Photography, video filming, graphic designing and editing
  • Building and maintaining a positive brand image for the University.
  • Checking out and managing content produced for the University’s Website, Electronic and Print Media as well as Social Media Channels Writing speeches for the University's management

Desired qualifications

  • BA/MA Degree in Journalism, Media, Marketing, Advertising, Communications or related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in the public relations field.
  • Previous working experience in a University setup will be a distinct advantage.
  • Strong relationships with both local and national business and industry media outlets.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills.
  • Event planning experience.

DIRECTOR: INSTITUTE OF INCLUSIVITY, TEACHING, RESEARCH AND REHABILITATION.

Applicants should possess a minimum of a relevant Doctoral degree. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in teaching, research and administration. The
candidate should have excellent communication skills. The Director will be in charge of teaching, research, innovation and the industrial hub for the manufacture of assistive devices for various impairments.

Position Title:              Senior Assistant Librarian
Reports To:                 The University Librarian
Grade Position:           F
Qualification:              Masters degree in Lib. Science.

Experience:  Minimum 5 years in an academic Library in senior positions or recommendation upon exceptional work performance

Description: The Senior Assistant Librarian is currently our coordinating chief operations manager in charge of ensuring smooth running of the RCU Library as a whole.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees, coordinates and performs the integrated activities of the Reformed Church
    University (RCU) Library, that is, organises and implements the provision of the RCU
    Library Services.
  • Coordinates the supervision of the Library staff through Departmental Heads.
  • Monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and
    procedures.
  •  Identifies and resolves problems and assigns work activities.
  •  Reviews and evaluates work methods and procedures.
  • Assumes responsibility and manages the Library in the absence of the University
    Librarian.
  • Coordinates and directs the maintenance of Library facilities.
  • Assists and participates in the developing and implementing of strategic planning goals
    and objectives.
  • Recommends and administers policies, objectives, priorities and procedures.
  • Assist in preparing the library budget and supervises the expenditure of budgeted funds.
  • Assists with the identification of new information trends and the implementation of
    new technologies.
  •  Compiles data and statistics on request.
  • Coordinates activities of the University Library.
  •  Identifies and develops strategic opportunities and directions for the Library.
  • Works towards the continuous growth of the staff’s professional knowledge and skills.
  • Promotes internal communication.
  •  Attends University meetings as directed by the University Librarian.
  • Coordinates and participates in policy planning and formulation of work procedures to
    meet the needs of the university library.
  •  Participates in determining  the information needs of students, staff  and researchers
  • Be a member of the library senior management team.
  • Visits and consults with Deans and chairpersons of all academic departments in the
    university.
  • Researches on the adequacy of library materials in appropriate subject fields
    considering such factors as academic goals of departments’ course on offer, enrollment,
    teaching and research materials.
  • Carry out all reasonable assignments as assigned by the Librarian.

Position Title:              Assistant Librarian (Harare )
Reports To:                 The University Librarian
Grade Position:            G
Qualification:              Bsc..Lib. Science or Masters degree Lib. Science.

Experience:                Minimum 5 years in an academic Library.

Description
To coordinate the operationalization of the Harare RCU campus  library, ensure its smooth  day to day  running and provide specialized subject, research , reference and instructional user
services for faculty, graduate and undergraduate students of RCU.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a thorough familiarity with the information resources in assigned subject
    area and its curricular and research needs
  • Investigate and analyse the course offerings of assigned faculty so as to keep abreast
    of developments in assigned fields.
  • Maintain a level of contact with the faculty that will provide knowledge of academic
    and research programmes, sufficient to ensure that collections and services support
    curriculum and research needs.
  • Inform faculty about important library policies and procedures.
  • Prepare bibliographic guides and other publications in support of the library’s
    collection.
  • Attend departmental   meetings that provide opportunities to promote and enhance
    the library’s role as an educational partner.
  • Provide a specialized research consultation service and assist students and faculty to
    find subject specialized information for assignments, reports and research.
  • Assist researchers to manage their citations and bibliographies.
  • Create print and web-based guides and tools required for the effective use of
    resources within assigned subject areas.
  •  Assist in the development and maintenance of the university library’s website related
    to the assigned subject and service specialties.
  • Prepare subject-based accessions lists, bibliographies, guides and other publications
    in support of the library’s print and electronic resources.
  • Create and maintain subject portals for use by relevant assigned faculty.
  • Stimulate growth in the University in the area of research by introducing innovative programmes like library information skills training and compile examinable modules for all the faculties together with other Faculty Librarians.
  • Advocate the ILS programme to earn credits for the students through various academic departmental meetings.
  • Plan for the creation of the Institutional Repository and educate the University community about intellectual property rights and copyright laws.
  • Collect Reformed Church University intellectual content and research output for the Institutional Repository.
  • Provide general and subject-oriented bibliographic instruction to classes or groups, as well as to individual faculty members and students.
  • Assist academic staff with the selection of materials in all formats for assigned subject areas, by  circulating trade and national bibliographies, advertisements, publishers ‘catalogues, etc., in consultation with the Head of Acquisitions, who manages the entire acquisitions budget.
  • Ensure adherence to copyright requirements and to permissions from holders of intellectual property rights for material in the Institutional Repository.
  • Assist with marketing and promotion of the Institutional Repository.
  • Exercise bibliographic control of content in the Institutional Repository, i.e. help to capture, store, index, preserve and redistribute this electronic/digital intellectual content, and ensure that there is easy access to it via the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC).
  • Supervise and assign duties to Senior Library Assistants and Interns attached   to your faculty.
  • Deliver an induction presentation during the new student’s orientation.
  • Identify and implement efficient procedures to support all activities associated with the circulation of library materials including the short loan material and the audio visual resources.
  • Oversee the service provision at evenings and weekends and on minimum service days.
  • Carry out all reasonable assignments as assigned by the Librarian.

 


 

Position Title:              Library Assistant/ Senior Library Assistant 
Reports To:                 Assistant  Librarian
Grade Position:            9a
Qualification:              Diploma  in  Library and Infor. Science.

Description : To provide cataloguing standards and best practice in organizing  information, circulation services and assist in the basic technical  support for the collection of the library.
Responsibilities:

  • Cataloging and classification of all library materials according to AACR11 , LCCS and
    LCSH
  • Assist with policy formulation for cataloging and classification.
  • Maintain bibliographic records.
  • Create and maintain authority file data
  • Print barcodes and spine labels to identify records on the shelf
  • Manage and distribute branch libraries items
  • Assist the User Services Department with the annual stocktaking.
  • Shelve books and periodicals every morning and whenever necessary
  •  Maintain a receiving register
  • Maintain an accession register
  • Receive and record delivered items
  • Check purchased or donated materials for accuracy and damages
  • Stamp RCU library ownership stamps on all security pages of all
    books and similar materials.
  • Collect new boxes of books from the receiving bay.
  • Carry out all reasonable assignments as requested by supervisors
